“I am passionate about the intense and creative work of making opportunities to experience meaning and choosing to live fully throughout the life we are given”
I have worked and studied in both the artistic and therapeutic fields, and am now thrilled to combine my two passions in my work! I offer art therapy, counselling, and workshops to individuals and groups through my private practice, Open Hearth Studio, located in the James Bay neighbourhood in Victoria BC, and online via a video platform.
I also contract my art therapy services to other groups in Victoria, including the Victoria Hospice (Bereavement Group Facilitator)
I maintain professional registration with the B. C. College of Social Workers, and am an active Registered member of the B. C. Art Therapy Association (Past President, and currently serving as Recording Secretary), and a professional member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association.
My artistic experience includes six years of owning a studio where I designed and made fibre art, sculpture, clothing, and costumes for children’s creative play and for performance artists, and where I taught artistic workshops to children and adults. In recent years I have expanded my repertoire to include painting, clay sculpture, and mixed media.
I am committed to continuing my own growth and education through frequent participation in conferences, workshops, and courses in art, therapeutic, and coaching techniques and topics, thus ensuring my clients the highest quality of care. Most recently I have attended:
Mentor Coach: Foundations Coach Training Program (An accredited coach training program by the International Coaching Federation) to be completed February 2018
The Sacred Art of Living and Dying: 2 year Anamcara Apprenticeship program, to be completed June 2018.
The Sacred Art of Living and Dying: 2 Year Training Course, sponsored by Victoria Hospice, completed April 2016.
Canadian Art Therapy Association Annual Conference, annually from 2011 to present (A member of planning committee, Vancouver 2017)
My personal experiences also inform my current practice. Travel and exposure to both current and historical varieties of culture and religious expression have fascinated me my entire life, and given me a broad perspective on my own and others’ spirituality. Early personal experiences of tragic and “untimely” deaths, as well as those that were expected, have sensitized me to the unique needs and existential challenges of grieving people. Growing through more than twenty years of parenting and the sometimes difficult realities of a long term relationship has given me a broad perspective on how personal challenges and growth can impact (and are impacted by) family relationships and generational patterns.
I am passionate about the intense and creative work of making opportunities to experience meaning and choosing to live fully throughout the life we are given; this is strengthened each time I am blessed with the honour of walking alongside others on their own unique paths through challenge, change and loss.
The many textured and coloured threads of my life – my passions and education, my curiosity and creativity – have been woven together to form Open Hearth Studio – a place where you will find strength and support for the challenges of your unique journey.
